Campus Catalyst Awards

The Indiana University Office of Sustainability announced its Campus Catalyst Awards recipients at its Second Annual Campus Catalyst Awards on November 13. All of these men and women have made a siginificant difference inside the classroom, in the lab, and on campus. Please congratulate the following winners on their outstanding contributions to campus sustainability:

IUB has made significant strides in campus sustainability over the past four years because of the innovation and hard work of hundreds of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members. The event will celebrate remarkable accomplishments of these sustainability catalysts and thank them for their leadership, innovation, and positive impact as the campus community works together to achieve the Indiana University Bloomington Campus Sustainability Advisory Board 2020 vision:

Indiana University is an international campus sustainability leader recognized for innovation and excellence in academic programs, research, campus environmental quality, campus operations and community outreach that facilitate and demonstrate the path to a more sustainable future.

Types of Awards

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members who have had an impact on campus sustainability are eligible for awards in four categories. Anyone can nominate a candidate and self-nominations are encouraged.

  • Excellence in Teaching
    • Candidates for this award have developed pedagogy and curriculum which reinforce and advance principles of sustainability through course design and instruction.
    • This award celebrates persons who have exhibited excellence in one or all of the following areas:
      • Innovation
        • Creative integration of principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability through innovative curriculum design and instruction.
      • Impact
        • Teaching and mentorship which inspires student engagement in sustainability projects on campus or beyond.
        • Pedagogy which advances IUB's 2020 Vision to become an international leader in the development of sustainability-focused academic degrees and programs.
  • Excellence in Research
    • Candidates for this award have developed a research program in one or more areas of sustainability.
    • This award celebrates persons who have exhibited excellence in one or more of the following areas:
      • Innovation
        • Development of groundbreaking approaches to research focused on environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
      • Impact
        • Research which could have significant and positive environmental, social, and economic impacts on campus, in the community, or beyond.
        • Research which advances IUB's 2020 Vision to become an international leader in sustainability-focused research.
  • Leadership Award
    • Candidates for this award are faculty, staff, community, and alumni who display leadership characteristics that have guided significant campus initiatives related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
    • This award celebrates persons who have exhibited excellence in one or more of the following areas:
      • Innovation
        • Development of creative and ground-breaking approaches to addressing complex social, environmental, and economic sustainability issues on the IUB campus or beyond.
      • Impact
        • Leadership which inspires campus community members to develop or engage in sustainability initiatives which will have significant environmental, social, and economic impacts on campus, in the community, or beyond.
        • Leadership which engages critical campus stakeholders in integrating sustainability into campus academics and operations.
        • Leadership of a project or initiative that has resulted in tangible positive outcome(s), which are critical to enhancing sustainability at IUB.
        • Leadership critical to enhancing IUB's stature as an international leader in sustainability.
  • Student Leadership Award
    • Candidates for this award are IUB students (undergraduate and graduate) who display leadership characteristics that have guided significant campus initiatives related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
    • This award celebrates persons who have exhibited excellence in one or more of the following areas:
      • Innovation
        • Development of creative and ground-breaking approaches to addressing complex social, environmental, and economic sustainability issues on the IUB campus or beyond.
      • Impact
        • Leadership which inspires campus community members to develop or engage in sustainability initiatives which will have significant environmental, social, and economic impacts on campus, in the community, or beyond.
        • Leadership which engages critical campus stakeholders in integrating sustainability into campus academics and operations.
        • Leadership of a project or initiative that has resulted in tangible positive outcome(s), which are critical to enhancing sustainability at IUB.
        • Leadership critical to enhancing IUB's stature as an international leader in sustainability.
  • Team Award
    • Candidates for this award are groups (e.g. Green Teams, student organizations, group projects for a course) who have advanced the principles of environmental, social, and economic sustainability through the development and implementation of campus initiatives.
    • This award celebrates groups who have exhibited excellence in one or more of the following areas:
      • Innovation
        • Development of or participation in creative and groundbreaking approaches to addressing complex social, environmental, and economic sustainability issues on the IUB campus or beyond.
      • Impact
        • Development of or participation in initiatives which have had significant and measurable positive environmental, social, and economic impacts on campus, in the community, or beyond.
        • Development of or participation in initiatives which engage critical campus stakeholders in integrating sustainability into campus academics and operations.
        • Development of or participation in initiatives which elevate IUB's stature as an international leader in sustainability.
